OLD BOB IS EVEN OLDER

Now that I have turned 86, I don't feel a day older than 85 and a half.
For a long time, I have wondered why the good lord has kept me around, Now I know why. Explained in a hai ku as follows:
Why am I so old?
Moe wrote,"God saved you for us."
So that's the reason!

A SNAPPY COMEBACK

One of my summer jobs was in the Yard Gang at New Britain Machine. The gang did maintenance and janitorial jobs, The guys in the gang were college students/public school teachers, so it was a pretty brainy bunch. When you are dealing with smart people, you have to be careful,as you will see.
The father of one of the gang was a boss at the company.
One day, the old man was berating his son, publickly, telling him wherein he was deficient. When the old man finished pointing out the kid's shortcomings, the kid asked his father, "Do you attribute that to heredity or environment?"

F.H.B...on the................

You are hosting guests for a meal. You discover, to your horror, that you don't have enough of something. The hostess calls out the warning:FHB on the meatloaf, or potatoes, or bread, or something of which there is not enough---This translates into FAMILY HOLD BACK ON THE----whatever. Don't seem to hear this expression anymore.
My grandmother had a non-verbal means of saying FHB, she would silently kick me under the table. I understood.

THE UNDERSIDE OF A MINESWEEPER

When WWII ended we were at Okinawa. We had gone back to Guam for some reason I can't recall, and were returning to Okinawa en route to Japan to help in the mine clean up --getting ready for peacetime use of the harbors. We ran into a typhoon, a hurricane at sea, and were trying to reach a sheltered harbor called Unten Ko at Okinawa. As a sidelight, there were seven YMS's in our group coming from Guam. When we got close to Okinawa., our little fleet was ordered to go up the lee side, the sheltered side with Okinawa between us and the typhoon. For some reason, four of the YMS's went up the windward side of Okinawa into the teeth of the typhoon. They were lost with all hands. The only trace we found after the storm was a galley table
One of the pictures shows the underside of the ship.
