MOE HAD FUN

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

When Nancy and I were eight and   nine years old,  we   loved to go roller  skating,  not  in a rink, but outside in the neighborhood.  Our skates clamped  onto  our shoes, and  we tightened  them with  a  skate  key.   We   would disappear for hours at a time going miles away from our house.   No one worried about us  because it was a safe time then.
We  also loved going to the movies.   We walked  to Main Street  which was about two miles  and  stayed for the double features at the Strand  or  Embassy    theater.   I  can still remember  the  splitting headaches  I  would  get  spending four hours in a dark theater.
We also loved swimming.  Every nice day  we  walked to  the  A.W.  Stanley  Park   which was about a three mile walk.  The pool  was like a pond with no cement  lining.
We stayed    for hours swimming  and playing volleyball with  our friends.
In  the Winter,  we ice skated at  Stanley  Park which  was only about  a mile walk from home.   The  Park had  a building  where you  could put on your skates  and get warm.  It’s no wonder  that by the time I was in  High School,  I weighed only  96 pounds.  I was very  active back then.  Our days were always fille d with outdoor activities,  and in so many ways we were  healthier  kids.
Oh, for the Good Old Days!  We had  so much  fun.
