Salisbury, CT
I had no idea that Connecticut still had remote areas. We discovered one on our trip through New England. A friend from Atlanta (who grew up in Mass) invited us to use his "camp" on a little lake in Salisbury, CT. We drove the clumsy RV 3 miles into the woods on a one-lane dirt road. It was dark and I was skeptical. But, when we got there, we found that the camp was really a lovely little cottage right on a lake (forgot the name). As you can see, there is almost no development and absolutely no motorized vehicles on this lake. The camp/cottage is powered by propane gas for cooking and lighting, so there's no electricity. It's not as mountainous as Maine or New Hampshire, but it's a LOT closer and very peaceful. Maybe we should look for a similar property as a family investment?
