WHAT A POWERFUL COUNTRY

The attached was written for our writing class. My thoughts on the day the invasion fleet arrived at Leyte Gulf to take back the Philippines might be of interest

Awesome, our county was a powerful force. Every now and then (and I'm due now) I have to reread all the stuff Dad has written about WWll (I have it in a notebook). It is incredible to think that many of the boys (soon to be men) were just teenagers when they enlisted.
I spoke to an alum from Andy's school today-I think he was from the class of '43? He told me he was in the dorm, on Dec 7, when they were all called to the common room to hear the news about Pearl Harbor on the radio. He was drafted into the Navy and left within a week of graduation. He couldn't talk about the rest of it-and just changed the subject quickly.

Dad - you've lived through times that the rest of us can't even imagine. It's really true - you are part of the greatest generation that has shaped this country. You should be proud of that.
Having worked in aerospace for over 20 years, I feel proud every time I see a jet fighter fly straight into the clouds ..... gives you a feeling of pride in the power our country has. No one can mess with us!
