B DISCUSSES INTERIOR DECORATING INTODAY'S WORLD
BOB
DISCUSSES LIVING ROOM DÉCOR
Just opening
the other eye,
emerging from my
after breakfast nap,
I pose a
question to myself,:
“ How would I
characterize this room’s
style? It’s not
modern, of that There
is no question.
Is it Baroque?
Neoclassical, or what?”
I have settled on the term, “Eclectic." What
is that you say?
I thought you
might ask, so
I looked it up. In
layman’s terms it
sort of means of
mixed origins, or
odds and ends.
In the vernacular, I
suppose I could have said,
“Early American Junk,”
but that might
reflect unfavorably on
our methodical, well
thought out, even
disciplined decorating plan.
So we will go
with eclectic.
Over the 65 years we
have been managing
our orderly household,
there were times we were
perhaps pragmatic, I
will concede. We
might have opted
to spend our money
on mundane things
such as food, instead of
interior decorating, but sometimes our
easy going, approachable approach
to life subjected us
ill advice and
manipulation by those
who had furniture
too nice to throw out so
why don’t we “ Give it to Moe ad
Bob?” That seems
to have been the
operative expression, from
the looks of things, and they
did.
We wound
up Eclectic, as I
said---so much so
that at one point, we had five
bureaus in one
bedroom. But back
to my room, the
one that’s supposed to be a
living room.
So here I
loll in my recliner
with the heated
throw within reach
of the re mote,
two nooks, my
crosswords and many
books which I intend to
read when I get
time. My clipboards,
a cup full
of pens and pencils and a place
to put my
drink. Sounds cozy,
right.
The
scrambling begins when the
doorbell rings, or company
is coming. You
try hiding all that clutter
if you think it is so easy.
Maybe we should have been a little less than
eclectic.
Besides……who cares what they think?
